Promoted to the title of Senior Rigging Artist in his second year of full-time studio work, Mat Isler prides himself on:
• His ability to invent and improve rigging techniques
• His talent for passing his skills on to colleagues and students
• His efficient and reliable workflow for painting skin weights with ngSkinTools
• Making complicated technical concepts fun and easy to understand
Mat sought widely varied rigging work for the sake of versatility, gaining experience in every kind of 3D animation production, including:
• Cartoony animation
• Realistic game cinematics
• Live-action VFX
• Feature films & TV series
• Maya-to-Unreal pipelines
• Big & small studios
• International collaborations
• Virtual reality & indie games
Starting with freelance as a student, Mat was a key resource in the rigging of his classmates’ graduating films and had his first employment contract waiting before he graduated, with a plan to become self-employed after 5 to 10 years. When he was later headhunted for a Rigging Supervisor position starting with the second season of Blue Eye Samurai, he decided that it was time to take the step towards self-employment.
After traveling and becoming fluent in 4 languages so far, Mat is dedicated to making rigging more accessible to artists around the world, including transferring his Maya skills over to Blender while continuing to innovate in his beloved craft.
